Biotin is a naturally occurring vitamin, also called vitamin B7, vitamin H or coenzyme R. Biotin (Mw 244 Da) is a coenzyme of carboxylase enzymes involved in the transfer of carbon dioxide. It is used as a convenient label for many proteins (including antibodies) because of its strong binding to avidin or streptavidin, conjugates of which can be used to detect the biotinylated protein.
