Ecoli

Escherichia coli (E. coli) is among the most frequent
causes of food related diarrhoea. Most E. coli strains
are under normal circumstances harmless and part of
the indigenous intestinal flora in warm-blooded
organisms, but some serotypes can cause serious food
poisoning in humans, and are occasionally responsible
for product recalls. Big outbreaks in the industrialized
world have proved the need for serotyping of E. coli as
a base for proper diagnosis, identification, surveillance,
and food control.
